TRS secures 43 pc votes in GHMC elections

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi polled nearly 43.85 per cent of total votes polled to register its historic victory in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections by winning 99 seats.  According to the final figures released by the GHMC on Saturday, the TRS polled 14,68,618 or 43.85 per cent of total votes out of 33,49,379 polled votes in 150 wards.

The MIM, which contested in 60 wards, secured 530,812 or 15.85 per cent votes to emerge as second largest party with 44 seats. While the TDP secured 13.11 per cent (439047) and BJP got 10.34 per cent (346253), the Congress party was able to get 10.40 per cent (348388) votes.

The BSP and Lok Satta got 0.31 per cent, CPI 0.38 per cent , CPI (M) 0.25 per cent, other registered parties 0.86 per cent and all independents cumulatively secured 4.38 per cent votes.  In 2009 GHMC elections, the Congress won 52 seats by securing 28.4 per cent votes, while TDP gained 45 seats with 28.03 per cent. Both the parties lost huge vote share in this elections. While Congress lost 18 per cent vote share, TDP lost 14.92 per cent vote share.

The vote share of both MIM and BJP has increased this time. However, despite increasing the vote share by 0.37 per cent from 9.97 per cent in 2009 to 10.34 per cent this time, BJP's tally came down from 5 to 4. There has been an increase by 1.41 per cent in the vote share of MIM although the party contested in 60 wards this time compared to 70 wards in 2009. As a result, the MIM was able to increase its numbers in the GHMC from 43 in 2009 to 44 this time.
