TS CM KCR Forgets his e-mail Password

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who strives to develop Telangana a tech-savvy state, did not use his official email ID for the past one year and in the process forgot its password.

With an important mail from the Centre landing in his inbox and the Centre waiting for his response, Rao tried to access his official e-mail address but failed as he forgot its password. The IT department immediately swung into action and generated a new password making it possible for the CM to log on to his official email ID.

According to sources, the official email address of Rao, cm@telangana.gov.in, was created one week after he assumed office in June 2014. But, the CM seldom used his official mail address and did not even check the mails landing in his address. As the chief minister’s office had another official e-mail address - cmo@telangana.gov.in - Rao could receive all important mails and so he forgot using his official address.

According to sources, this has come to light, when the Prime Minister’s Office wanted the CM to check some important mails sent to the Chief Minister’s official mail address.

The matter was reported to the IT department and the staff immediately revived the e-mail address by generating a one time password for the CM. Rao has to change the password again.

The CMO mail ID is like a general pool and some select officials have access to it. But, the personal email ID of the Chief Minister is not accessible to anyone else other than a confidential employee deputed by him.

According to sources, after the launch of the NITI Ayog, the Centre has been sending some important information to the personal email address of the chief ministers. Chief Ministers of all the States are members of NITI Ayog.

Sources said when the Centre tried to confirm with the CM that he received the mails, the issue came to light that Rao hardly used his personal email ID.

“We got a complaint from the CMO officials to regenerate the password for the personal email address of the CM. We have generated it. The CM can use his official email ID from Saturday,” an official told Express on condition of anonymity.

“Perhaps, the CM is not using his official email ID, as almost all the correspondences are being sent to the CMO mail ID simultaneously,” officials pointed out.

“No doubt, Rao is tech savvy. He just forgot the password,” the official was quick to add. Sources said the IT department is receiving requests from senior officials of various departments to generate new passwords as they usually forget their passwords.
