People carrying onions in pockets to beat heat

As heat wave conditions prevail, many people are now resorting to a strange trick to keep cool — a few onions in pockets.

It is believed that onions will help stabilise body temperatures and protect one from sunstroke. And thanks to a fall in onion prices, believers are now buying the vegetable in kilos while moving about outside during the day.

The onions are being carried either in shirt pockets or in trousers. Severely high temperatures were recorded in Nizamabad over the past few days. People are hesitating to move on roads sensing troubles. In this  context, people started oldest tradition of carrying single onion in  their pockets. The practice is a special hit with traffic police.
