Story:
Catherine (Akanksha) is a daughter of central minister Rao Ramesh. She goes to Spain for higher studies and rents a house. There she finds a diary written by Amala Paul (Komali). The diary reveals the romantic love story between Amala Paual and guitarist Allu Arjun (Sanju Reddy). On the other side there is a background story track between Catherine and Allu Arjun. At one time a twist about Amala Paul gets revealed. What is it and other incidents followed forms the rest of the plot.
Performances:
True to his tag of 'stylish star', Allu Arjun looks trendier than ever before. His costumes are very nice and his overall look is quite sophisticated.Bunny danced for two Chiru song bits. Gang Leader title song and Shankar Dada MBBS title song. was at it's best sketchy, and looks completely different from his previous films.· The amount of hard work and research done for Bunny's styling and wardrobe, was clearly visible on screen.
Amala Paul's characterisation is a delight, and she plays Komali so effectively that you'll be left wondering who else could have done the role better than her. She was a perfect choice to play a traditional Telugu girl.
Kaetherine Teresa looks glamorus and perfectly suits the character of Akanksha.
Brahmanandam is highlight in the first half as Phidel Brahma. Ali is wasted as Mental Krishna in second half. Rao Ramesh, Shawar Ali and Subba Rao justified their selection in villain roles. Nasser, Tanikella Bharani, Pragathi and Tulasi appear in brief roles.
Technical Departments:
Off late Puri is taking good subjects for his movies but he is failing to execute them well. Same is the case of Iddarammayilatho. Unlike his usual style of depending on peculiar hero’s characterization and dialogue delivery he tried a different kind of approach in this movie. But the at the end it turned out as a product which is not at all expected from Puri. First half of the movie is okay with comedy between Allu Arjun, Amala Paul and Brahmi. Puri had failed totally in second half with story getting slow paced and predictable.
Kecha Khamphakdee is a revelation. The action sequences he choreographed in Spain and Bangkok are perhaps one of the best in the recent times.
Cameraman Amol Rathod has captured the picturesque locations beautifully. His sharp photography and peculiar camera angles have elevated the film's visual appeal. He also captured the beauty of Spain and other places excellently and every frame and shot is a marvel.
Devi Sri Prasad's numbers are peppy as usual and his violin background was used to good effect.
Plus Points:
Allu Arjun’s sylish looks
Songs, Dances and fights
Choreography
Funny dialogues between lead pair
Catherine skin show
‘Run Run’, ‘Violin Song’ and ‘Top Lechipoddi’ Songs
Allu Arjun dance to Gang Leader and Shankar Dada songs
Minus Points:
Brahmanandam and Ali comedy episodes
Second half
Allu Arjun’s character
Purijagannath track missed
Ali’s hair style is unbearable
Climax fight scene
Final Analysis:
The story is about a guitarist Sanju Reddy(Allu Arjun). He is a lead guitarist for a band based in Spain. Then comes Akanksha(Catherine Tresa), a rich kid of an Indian politician, who comes to Spain for higher studies. She is drawn to this particular dairy in Spain. The reason for this interest is because of the love-story of the previous owner of this Dairy.
The owner being Komali Sankarabharanam(Amala Paul). And yes the love-story is about Sanju and Komali. The establishing of the main characters is done very subtly and very believably. Akanksha who is very moved by their story get very attached to the characters. And when she comes across Sanju in person. She is naturally drawn to him. The director deserves appreciation at this point for achieving very good non-forced acting from the actors.
When Akanksha finds out the story of Sanju and Komali ended abruptly, she demands explanation. Akanksha realizes the beautiful story she loves has a very tragic ending. Shaken, Akanksha, starts developing feelings towards Sanju. She even proposes to him. The story gets interesting after this. Does Sanju accept Akanksha's love? What was the tragic love-story? What happened to Komali? Forms the rest of the movie.
Final Word: Iddarammayilatho hits you like fresh air, and you instantly fall for the lead characters, refreshingly flesh-and-blood with their set of quirks, flaws and strengths. One more hurry-burry execution of Puri Jagannadh. One time watcher. Might still fare at box office due to no major flicks before and after.
