The success also gave them a new mark in World Cup history, matching West Indies.

Today's triumph resulted in the longest winning streak for India in World Cups. Now they are unbeaten in 9 matches till date, equalling West Indies' feat of 9 consecutive wins in 1975 and 1979 editions (won both titles). India's previous best was in 8 in 2003 under Sourav Ganguly.

In all games, Dhoni was at the helm and is still not finished yet. However, India have a long way to match the all-time record. Australia strung together 25 World Cup game wins between 1999 and 2011.

Dhoni and Kapil are India's only captains to have won the World Cup. Kapil was the first to do it in 1983 and Dhoni emulated him in 2011. India's 9-match unbeaten run started at 2011 edition when they beat West Indies on March 20. From there, they went on to capture the trophy (4 victories in a row). In entire 2011 tournament, India lost only 1 match, to South Africa and tied one (against England).
