Mohanlal speaks on JNU row

Days after Anupam Kher and Shriya Saran spoke on the Jawaharlal Nehru University controversy in support of the Nationalist view, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has written glorifying patriotism.

Mohanlal, an actor who holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India, tried to contextualize the freedom of expression debate in the context of the army personnel's sacrifices to protect the territorial integrity of India. 'As soldiers die for the nation, there can be nothing more shameful than citizens discussing what freedom and patriotism is,' the superstar has been paraphrased as saying.

"Our country is the soil we stand on, the sky above our heads, the air we breathe, the water we drink and finally the piece of land that we will become one with as we die. Any discussion that does not help us strengthen the freedom we have attained is meaningless and is an insult to the nation," he has written.
