Miruthan movie review is here. Starring Jayam Ravi and Lakshmi Menon in the lead, Miruthan is the first zombie film in Tamil, a factor that helped in building its pre-release buzz.

So, has the movie justified its genre? Will director Shakti Soundar Rajan's bold attempt yield him the desired result? Continue reading our movie review to unlock the answers.

Story:

When you are penning down a story based on zombies, you have to play by the rules which comes with certain set of restrictions. A virus springs up, it infects humans and it spreads, turning everyone into a zombie. And then there is the main character (Jayam Ravi in this case) who tries to save the day from zombies.
Miruthan pretty much has the same setting. But hold on to your horses as director Shakti Soundar Rajan comes up with his own twist and turns to make this flick watchable by Tamil audiences.

Performances:

Jayam Ravi comes up with a refined performance. Kudos to the actor for not overdoing his job as a movie like Miruthan might force you to exaggerate things.
Lakshmi Menon too, is a class act. Fear is an emotion that may grip you throughout this film and Lakshmi Menon helps accentuate that feel.

Comic relief is provided by actors like R N R Manohar and Kaali Venkat. Comedy sequences have worked in parts, which is an added advantage amidst shooting and gore.

Baby Anikha is impressive yet again. All other supporting actors including the ones playing zombies have come up with credible performances, for which the director has to be appreciated.

Positives:

Jayam Ravi

Peformances

Story

Direction

Negatives:

Music

Narration

Technicalities:

While the first half is fast paced, the latter half gets draggy at places. Miruthan could've easily been a better flick had the second half been a touch pacier.
Having said that, the climax and pre-climax portions are fabricated well, making you forget about the movie's second half lapses.

Though cinematography by Venkatesh is on par with some of the recently released Tamil films, his work has to be appreciated as Miruthan is a new attempt in Kollywood.

Venkat Ramanan's editing could've been better, especially in the second half. Kudos to the producers, S Michael Rayappan of Global Infotainment and M Seraphin for bankrolling this flick in spite of the risks involved.

Imman's background score is impressive as it is apt for a movie like Miruthan. Special mention goes to the make-up department as the team has managed to score big which is one of the positives of Miruthan.
