Timesofap Rating: 3/5
After the blockbuster film, Loukyam, Gopichand is coming out with an another promising film, Jil. U V Creations, who have bagged two back to back stylish hits with Mirchi and Run Raja Run are the makers of this film. Adding to the hype, all the promotional stuff released prior to the film has got positive response. So lets us see how far Jil managed to leave up to its expectations.
Story:
Jai(Gopichand) is a sincere fire officer who leads a happy life with his family. He falls in love with Savitri(Raashi Khanna) and spends some cozy time with her. Twist in the tale arises when a underworld don Chota Naik(Kabir) crosses paths with Jai.
A small misunderstanding between the two of them ends up into a huge war. Rest of the story is as to how Jai solves his problems and overcomes the mighty Chota Naik.
Performances:
Gopichand who is known for doing mass characters has appeared very stylish and suave in this film. Although the characterization has mass appeal, presentation will earn some fans among the class audiences too. Gopi is at his usual best as the fire officer. He did career best dances in this film and completely shouldered the film with his impressive screen presence.
Rashi Khanna is pretty as the female lead. Her oozing oomph factor will play big role in attracting male audiences to the theaters. She is a good performer too. She carried off her role with grace and shows lots of promise to become one of the most sought after actresses in Tollywood. Posani Krishna Murali did another full length comedy role in this film. He is good. Kabir is menacing as the bad guy. Urvashi did the supporting role to perfection.
Technicalities:
Director Radha Krishna Kumar knows his craft well. He did very good job for a first timer. There are few hiccups in the middle, but it is decent output from the debutante. He should have handled the second half better. He presented this mass film in a stylish fashion which is not as easy as it appears. He is surely a talent to watch out for.
Music by Ghibran is peppy and sounds new. However the songs may not appeal to the masses. Songs have fresh appeal and are shot well too. Background score is another asset. Cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan is top notch. He complemented the stylish presentation of the director so well to make this a technically flawless film. Editing is fine. Producers must be appreciated for trusting in new directors. Another quality film from the production house that is already eyeing to become one of the biggest banners of Tollywood.
Positive Points:
Gopichand
Rashi Glamour
Songs and Cinematography
Negative Points:
Too much violence
Predictable
Analysis:
Jil is a commercial package with all the elements to please the masala movie lovers. There is lots of action and comedy besides a lovable romantic track. First half is entertaining with Gopichand and Rashi Khanna's sweet romance. Interval bang is exceptional which shifts the mood of the film.
Second half is completely dedicated for the cat and mouse between hero and villain. All other elements take back seat, but there is some comedy in the form of Posani's character. Although Jil breezes off with racy screenplay we get the feeling of dejavu in many scenes as this formula is not new to us.
Director chose a beaten to the death plot and executed in a stylish way. Gopichand fans who like to watch him in full action mode will get their ticket's worth. For audience who expected a fresh film from Gopichand may not be pleased with this routine action formula film. Despite its shortcomings Jil has its moments to keep you entertained. It is a paisa vasool masala entertainer that can be watched once. It may not click at the box office on par with Loukyam but it has the goods to do well.
Verdict:
Well! here comes another hit for Gopichand and U V Creations. Though its lacks that fire, with its share of highs, Jil has finally won the Dil of audience.
