After facing lot of hurdles for four long years, Sai Dharam Tej's supposed debut film, Rey has hit screens today. The title of the film, Rey has been tried to justify by its tagline, 'Shout Out For Success'. Well! let us quickly see if it has got the success it is longing for or not.
Story: Rock (Sai Dharam Tej) is a happy go lucky guy who do illegal activities in Jamaica. He only cares about women’s beauty. One day, he encounters Amrutha (Saiyami Kher), a dancer aspiring to win the ‘Best of the World’ dancer title. Mexican-American Pop Star Zenna (Shraddha Das) also fights for that title. Then What happens when Rock falls in love with Amrutha? What about Amrutha’s ambition? Is there any trouble brewing to it ? is rest of the storyline.
Performances:Sai Dharam Tej excelled in showcasing his dancing prowess and he was decent in portraying his acting abilities. Since Rey is technically Sai Dharam Tej's first film, he was presented in a massy way to attract the mass audiences and en-cash the prime potentiality of mega family.
Saiyami Kher was okay but she has failed to create any impact. Shraddha Das has got to play the main antagonist of the film and she has done her job pretty well. Both the ladies have gone out of the box in adding the glamour quotient to the film.
Venu Madhav irritates you at times in the name of comedy. Ali's comedy track as Lungi Baba, managed to share some laughs. Raghu Babu has played his part well in the spoof on three top heroes.
Plus Points:Sai Dharam Tej’s energetic performances
Songs
High Quality Production Values
Minus Points:Comedy scenes
Editing
Technical Aspects:
Since the film is shot almost 4 years ago, it lacks the quality. Too many cuts and mutes makes it a bumpy ride. The characters have been designed to be very bold, since caribbean's are touted to be quite straight forward.
The so called bold attitude has gone over the board and tests your patience. Chakri's music is a savior but the song placements are real bane in the 2 hour 48 mins film. Director YVS chowdary's over confidence was evident in the film and he has failed to pull of the film in an interesting way.
Styling of the lead actors and setting of the film lacks the nativity and though there were too many action sequences and heavy dialogues, it falls short of the punch.
Verdict:Rey has nothing to be talked about except the efforts Sai Dharam Tej has put in. We don't know if Rey is really a shout for success or not, it surely a Shout for exit from audience in the theaters.
