In what is considered as shocking, Muslim organisations have come out in support of their rival Vishwa Hindu Parishad in their fight against Kamal Haasan's Uttama Villain. A Muslim organisation has lodged a police complaint stating that Kamal "insulted religious sentiments of Hindus" in his latest film. Muslim organisation alleged that Kamal is banking on "cheap" publicity by raking up controversies. It may be recalled that VHP already sought ban on the film alleging that a song of the film hurting their sentiments.
"Iraniyan Naadagam" (Naa Rudhirapu Oka Thrunam: Hiranya Samhaaram) song is said to be the centre of the controversy as the song features conversation between Prahalad and Hiranyakashipu. VHP members allege that the song is portrayed in a "belittling" manner and "demeaning" Lord Vishnu.
Meanwhile, this is not first time Uttama Villain ran into trouble. Earlier it was in news for alleged plagiarism charges as few pointed out that the film's first look poster has striking resembles to a photograph taken by French photographer Eric Lafforgue. Kamal was quick to slam the rumours and said that the look is truly inspired by the arts of "Theyyam".
Kamal had also faced flak from religious organisations during the release of his films "Vishwaroopam" and "Virumaandi" (Pothuraju in Telugu). "Vihswaroopam" was probably the most controversial movie of Kamla Haasan's career. Initially, the Hindu Makkal Katchi party protested against the movie asking for the change of title from Sanskrit to Tamil. Later, several Muslim groups demanded a ban on the movie. And it was followed by the film's exhibitors who asked Kamal to drop the idea to release his film on DTH (Direct To Home). Finally, the film saw the light of the day and was received well. It needs to be seen how Kamal would respond to the fresh controversy.
