Rajinikanth’s latest, Lingaa, is not doing well. In fact, the movie has suffered heavy losses across parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and distributors and exhibitors have unanimously agreed to seek compensation from the movie’s producer, Rockline Venkatesh, Vendhar Movies as well as from actor Rajinikanth.

Distributors had on Monday planned to gather at a marriage hall in Chennai city, owned by Rajinikanth, to present a “memorandum” to him but thanks to an intervention from Vendhar Movies, the group cancelled the meet. The makers have also asked distributors to wait till Wednesday as they hope the collections may go up.

But few distributors are happy with the current situation. “We were waiting and hoping the situation would improve, but the reverse has been happening over the last two days.

We buy the film only on the basis that it is a ‘Rajinikanth’ film. We can only make a humble request that we be compensated, which will, to some extent, save us from being wiped out.

There has been a precedent too Rajinikanth sir had compensated the trade bodies after the debacle of Baba as he was the producer of the film,” according to  Singaravelan, who distributed Lingaa in Trichy and Tanjore in Tamil Nadu.   

Lingaa’s collections and number of shows have dropped drastically with shows down to just a few in Hyderabad and Chennai. But this week brings particularly bad news for Rajini, because Aamir’s pk has been hogging screens nationwide.
