What's Going On In Caravans

What's Going On In Caravans

After blockbusters Baahubali, Srimanthudu last year and stupendous hits like Nenu Sailaja, Soggade Chinni Nayana and Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha in 2016, one could say that Tollywood is going great guns. But cost cutting wise, Tollywood is still far lagging behind.

Especially Telugu filmmakers are splurging for artistes' which really won't translate onto screen. Too many caravans are seen in shooting locations these days. Even the small artistes' are demanding caravans. It's learnt that on condition of providing caravans, artistes are agreeing to be part of films making it difficult for producers. Also it's heard that many artistes' are spending too much time in their caravans and not making it to the shot on time.

Although earlier producers like Dil Raju have openly demanded ban of caravans and even sit on a dharna, it really didn't earn result. It all again started with allowing it for big stars having their own caravans and now the situation is back to the square one that even small actors are wanting caravans.

A senior filmmaker has quoted on condition of anonymity, "There were days when yesteryear heroines have changed their dresses behind the trees with the help of assistants and make-shift rooms. In those days, they were very dedicated on their work and won't agree to wastage of time, money. But nowadays it has become prestige for artistes to have caravans and they take pride in making producer spend for them."

Few big producers might afford providing caravans, but producers of small-budget films are suffering a lot in meeting actors demands. This is forcing several producers and production houses to stop making films. "When something is really required, producers should provide. But wasting unnecessarily is not good sign," commented another filmmaker. On the whole, this is definitely a sad state of the industry.
