Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Eleven of a family, among them five women and two children, were killed when a jeep and a dumper collided head on in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district.
According to police the incident took place on Agra road, some 20 kilometers away from Ujjain where the victims belonging to Paliwal family of Mahidpur town in Ujjain were on their way to take part in Kumbh Mela in Simhasta. Those killed were travelling in the jeep. Angered over the deaths, which virtually wiped out a family, a mob set the dumper on fire. All the 11 were killed on the spot while one person was left seriously injured. All of them belonged to Mahidpur, the Ujjain police superintendent said, confirming the toll.
According to reports both – the dumper and jeep – gutted fire and the victims present inside the jeep were charred to death. However the driver of the dumper escaped death and fled from the spot. The police said that the incident took place at around 3 pm and both the vehicles were moving at relatively high speed.
