Burning of dalits: What do you mean by photo op? I will visit again, Rahul Gandhi says

NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday lost his cool after a reporter asked him whether his visit to a Haryana village, where a dalt family was set on fire, was an photo opportunity.

"Why is it a photo opportunity? People are dying left, right and centre in this country. What do you mean by photo-op? I will visit again and again," a "visibly agitated" Rahul Gandhi told reporters.

"In Haryana, the government is not of the weaker and poorer sections," Rahul Gandhi said after meeting kin of the dalit family in Sunped village.

"This is an attitude shared by PM, CM and BJP-RSS. If somebody is weak, they can be crushed. What you are seeing is the result of this attitude, " the Congress VP said.

"The father says his children were killed for no fault of theirs. Their only fault is that they are poor," Rahul added.

Rahul said that victims' family is demanding a CBI inquiry in the incident.

Villagers have blocked the Ballabgarh-Faridabad highway demanding arrest of accused.

Four members of a dalit family suffered grievous injuries when their house in Sunped village in Ballabhgarh in Haryana was set on fire by a group of men in the early hours of Tuesday.

They were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, where 3-year-old Vaibhav and 8-month-old Divya succumbed to their injuries while their mother is being treated for 50% burns.

Jitendra Kumar, the father, was released after treatment for burns on his hand.

His relatives said they suspected the incident to be the fallout of a fight between the Jatavs and Rajputs last year.
