Harsha Bhogle, who belongs to Hyderabad and speaks Telugu very well, has been sacked by Board of Control for Cricket in India in a shabby manner, giving him no scope for reply.
While there have many versions why the great cricket commentator who commented all these years on Indian cricket on and off the field has been sacked, one particular version mentions that Harsha had a slanging match with a leading Indian cricketer, which resulted in his being taken off the rolls of IPL matches.
It was stated that Harsha happened to travel by the same plane as the Indian team. While the plane was flying, Harsha had got into a tiff with a leading Team India cricketer (no prizes for guessing). It became heated and came to near-blows. At this turn of the dialogue between Harsha and the leading cricketer, another Team India member intervened and pacified the matters between the two for the time being.
But soon after the plane landed, the leading cricketer and his team-mates conveyed the matter to the BCCI authorities, adding spice of alleged slander by Harsha. The BCCI immediately acted by dropping Harsha from the Commentators' List.
Harsha Bhogle, a professional manager from the IIM-A, has commented on Indian cricket without ever taking sides. So the talk of slander and getting down to a bout with a leading cricketer is so much hogwash, according to those who know Harsha well.
Harsha Bhogle is the son of two leading professors of Osmania University, his father French and Chemistry and his mother Marathi, since retired. Harsha is a very cool person and included by Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastry in the Professional Management Group. Perhaps India's greatest cricketer, Gavaskar is himself cool and diplomatic, so how could one imagine Harsha to be otherwise from the PMG!
