It says the huge money to be spent for road development will go down the drain if sewerage system remains poor
Hyderabad: Welcoming the Telangana State government’s decision to develop 1,400 km of roads in Hyderabad by December 2015, Lok Satta Party on Friday cautioned the government that huge sums of tax-payers' money will go down the drain if the drainage system is not upgraded.
Addressing a press here, the party’s GHMC unit President D Ramu said as per the data collected by the party under the RTI Act, a huge amount of Rs 2298.33 crore (Rs. 608.11 crore for road repairs and Rs. 1690.22 crore for road development) was spent during 2009-2015. In spite of that, the roads today were in a far worse condition than before.
Similarly, an amount of Rs 675.44 crore was spent for drainage and sewerage works in the Greater Hyderabad area, leaving out the Old MCH area. But still, the drains were overflowing on to the roads. The party leader wondered where all the moneys spent went.
He deplored the fact that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who always talks about a world-class city, never ever mentioned the drainage system built by the Nizams way back in 1931 for a population of 5 lakhs. The Lok Satta Party always stressed the need for a permanent solution.
