The BBC hour long documentary, India’s Daughter narrating the Delhi rape incident that was banned by the Centre was screened on Saturday in Hyderabad City by All India Democratic Women’s Association activists.
Telangana State secretary, B. Himavathi confirmed it saying that the documentary India’s Daughter was screened at AIDWA office in Baghlingampally on March 14. AIDWA’s members and the legal cell watched the short film and another round table conference will be held on March 17 at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendra.
The members of the AIDWA team are ready to face any challenge as they believe that the documentary rightly narrates what certain sections of Indian men think of women and women are never considered at par with men in India despite contributing in all spheres; they are only considered as an object. Also, the members expressed their shock over the defence lawyer’s statement in the documentary on women not to be allowed to venture during night hours.
The Documentary screening was held only for the members of the AIDWA team and not for public. Central Zone Police officials said that they have not got any complaint on this issue so far; hence no legal action has been taken against them for the screening.
After the Delhi Police had registered an FIR in this regard and moved the court seeking restraint, a trial court restrained the media from broadcasting or publishing the interview of Mukesh Singh, the accused in the case.
