Breaking her silence, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to take immediate steps to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh as per the promise made by the then Congress Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Parliament while adopting bifurcation bill one year ago.
In her letter, Sonia has also asked the PM to announce grants to AP for the construction of the Capital city and tax concessions to promote industry in the residual state.
"It is one year since the bifurcation bill was adopted and assurance given on the special status to the residual state. However, you have failed to take steps towards granting special status to Andhra Pradesh," she said in her letter.
