Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s village Saifai isn’t new to sops. From a medical university to a state-of-the-art swimming pool, an advanced airstrip, stadiums, besides many other amenities, the village has it all.
And on Thursday, as a Holi gift, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated projects worth Rs 800 crore in Saifai.
It was only a few weeks ago that he had announced his government’s decision to upgrade Saifai’s UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and give it the status of a medical university. Saifai has a total population of 4,500 people.
The projects launched on the eve of Holi include a para-medical science college, 500-bed super-speciality hospital, 300-room hostel for para-medical students, and a central library.
However, the CM did not forget to woo the minority community by promising that Mulayam’s Azamgarh constituency would also be developed on the same lines.
I am doing this a day before the festival of Holi. There is no village in the country where development has taken place on such a large scale. Saifai village has best medical facility. People from other parts of the state reach here for quality medical services. They say that we have saved the lives of a large number of people by opening the medical institute here”, he said.
While praising his father and Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav for taking By Piyush Srivastava in Lucknow up the initiative to develop the village, Akhilesh did not forget to lure the people of Muslim dominated Azamgarh, from where he (Mulayam) is an MP.
“Netaji (Mulayam) had shifted his political base from Mainpuri to Azamgarh with the sole aim to develop that area. My government has many schemes for Azamgarh. We have opened a medical college there. We have also given a medical college to Saharanpur,” he said.
Akhilesh said his government has given maximum financial assistance to cancer patients of the state. This was the reason that he has planned a state of the art cancer institute in an area of 100-acres of land in Lucknow.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow after some problem in his urinary tract.
