Hyderabad: The Telangana State Cabinet has decided to appoint a sub-committee to study the levy method and quantum of commercial taxes being collected in other States. This decision assumes significance since the government is looking at different avenues to increase State revenues in order to ensure that its welfare and populist schemes do not face financial hiccups.
The meeting headed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao gave nod to six ordinances that would be introduced in the coming budget session. In the Cabinet meeting that lasted for two hours, Rao and Ministers approved Governor’s speech in the upcoming budget session that mentioned welfare schemes implemented so far and the government’s targets in the near future.
Various ordinances like land acquisition for Drinking Water Grid, naming of Horticulture University after late freedom fighter Konda Lakshman Bapuji, appointment of Parliament Secretaries and giving Police Commissionerate status to Warangal were approved by the Cabinet.
It also gave approval to reforms in VAT sector, cancellation of market committees and a few other issues relating to MA&UD and Health departments. Meanwhile, Chandrashekar Rao gave directions to Ministers on how to go about their business in the upcoming budget session.
He asked them to be fully prepared to answer any question relating to their department. Also, Ministers should make it a point to answer queries relating to their department without leaving the job to others. Replies should be full of details, crisp and precise, he stressed.
