NEW DELHI: Even as the rival factions of AAP have been working towards reconciliation since Monday night, supporters do not seem to be willing to leave anything to chance. Hectic lobbying has started for the national council meeting on March 28 where senior members Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan may find themselves ousted from AAP.
Members of the NC in Delhi claim they have been receiving calls from the US, from people claiming to be part of AAP's NRI cell, openly asking them to support Yadav and Bhushan. Manish Guliya, a party worker, claims to have received a call from one Aarti on Tuesday morning, who spoke to him for close to 20 minutes in an effort to convince him to support Yadav and Bhushan.
"The call came at 9.30am and Aarti said she and some others had acquired a list of all NC members and were calling each of us to find out what we think about the open hostility within the party. She then tried telling me her version and how some decisions taken by Kejriwal were not in the party's best interests and how he is occupying two posts.
"She then asked me to attend a meeting on March 27, the time and location of which was not revealed. My problem is, whatever I may think about the issues of the party, this is not the way to call people and lobby like this," said Guliya.
Another NC member from Delhi, Sajanand Rai, said he had received two such calls last week. "The calls were made by someone from Washington. He told me he had acquired phone details of all NC members through RTI and wanted to know what our individual stand is. He also invited me for a small meeting on March 27 and told me to support Admiral (retired) Ramdas, effectively asking me to vote in favour of Yadav and Bhushan," said Rai.
While several supporters feel that a middle path needs to be found to resolve this crisis that may lead to the expulsion of Yadav and Bhushan, the open feud has made AAP a topic of much criticism. Meanwhile, the Kejriwal camp has also been quite active for the past one week. For instance, while the Delhi unit of AAP openly pledged their allegiance to Kejriwal, around 60 MLAs have written a letter to the CM, asking for "exemplary action" to be taken against Yadav and Bhushan for conspiring against the party during the polls. These MLAs are expected to be special invitees to the NC.
