JAIPUR: The BJP on Friday admitted that that chief minister Vasundhara Raje has indeed filed the 10-page document in support of former IPL Lalit Modi's immigration application.

For the first time admitting that the 'draft statement' of Raje was indeed signed by her in August 2011, Rajasthan BJP president Ashok Parnami said, "while the last page of the document was signed by her, an affidavit of this kind should have had her signature on all the pages. The draft statement is not addressed to any court nor was it submitted in any of the UK courts as an affidavit or her statement." Parnami claimed that this document did not hold any relevance as per the UK Civil Procedure Rules 1998.

"The media is giving it undue weightage. In the draft statement itself, Raje has mentioned what the political scenario was in the country at that time and how she being a BJP leader was being targeted by the Congress, which was acting in vengeance. The Congress had even then attacked her on her relationship with the family (Modi's) which was decades old," said Parnami, in an attempt to justify Raje's condition to keep her support secret. "Moreover, Modi had not been declared an absconder at that point of time," he added.

Parnami had confirmed to TOI on Thursday that they had received the 10-page document, which was said to be the signed testimony of Raje and that it was being 'studied'. The state party president had then also assured that a statement on the document would be made soon, which came on Friday evening.

Earlier in the day, Parnami while interacting with the media at his residence struck down allegations that Raje was gathering support of the legislators for a possible show of strength to the centre. "It is nothing but negative propaganda against Raje. All speculations are baseless and the state and central leaderships stands by her," he said.

Meanwhile, chief minister Vasundhara Raje spent yet another day at her residence meeting several legislators, which sparked off speculations regarding Raje's probable show of strength. The chief minister's media advisor released a statement denying reports that Raje was trying to asses her situation by meeting the legislators. The chief minister holds hearings for legislators every Friday and the meeting conducted this morning with legislators were scheduled, the statement read.
