Hyderabad: To put a halt to the perennial problem of bad drainage lines and the stench emanating from them in the twin cities, the State Government will soon  formulate an plan of action, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has said. During his visit to the Sriram Nagar and NBT Nagar under Banjara Hills Assembly constituency as part of Swachh Hyderabad program, Harish Rao said officials have estimated that it would require Rs 300 crore for construction of drainage canals in the twin cities.

The minister said the TRS government will conduct “Swacch Telangana” on the lines of Swachh Hyderabad soon in the villages and municipalities. Besides, the government will conduct a Haritha Haram programme of planting saplings across the State, he maintained. Indeed, the problem of bad drainage in the twin cities is a daunting problem, which is being persistent and a permanent solution is needed, he remarked.

“We will spend adequate funds for this and involve the official machinery to construct fool-proof canals for the drainage, he said. Along with BJP MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Harish Rao interacted with the people. Speaking on the occasion, Harish said leaders, irrespective of political affiliations are supporting the clean drive.

The drive for cleanliness is not going to stop in a few days and will be conducted on regular basis. “We will spend at least two days for clean drive every month and address the problems, he stated. The government is now making efforts to get rid of from the drainage problems of leakages and merging with drinking water lanes Harish remarked.
