Following the reported denial of permission for the ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme planned by anganwadi workers in Hyderabad on Tuesday, the district police prevented the workers from the district to reach the State capital.
The police foiled the attempt of the anganwadi workers to board buses and trains at Poosapatirega, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, Bobbii and other places. At Parvathipuram, AIDWA leaders R. Sridevi and B.V. Lakshmi and several anganwadi workers were detained, when they tried to board Nagavali Express in the afternoon. Several workers were held at Bobbii railway station. In protest against the arrests, AITUC cadres organised a rasta roko at Clock Tower junction in the town.
