Guntur: With small tremors hitting AP Capital region's Amaravati and Undavalli areas for a few seconds simultaneously coinciding with the powerful Nepal earthquake on Saturday, concerns are being raised now over the AP Government's proposal to construct the capital city in areas falling in the earthquake zone.
As the CRDA areas fall in the earthquake zone 3 that may witness earthquake of a 6 magnitude on the Richter scale, constructions in the area will have to take place in such a manner to withstand the pressure of earthquakes.
Both Krishna and Guntur districts are in the lower side of the Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam and Pulichintala projects and hence extra precautions are necessary for all constructions in the two districts.
Above all, exploration of oil and natural gas from the basins of Godavari and Krishna rivers for the last few years now may result in the black soil sulking resulting in turning the area into a highly earthquake prone-zone.
While opposing the construction of capital city in the Krishna and Guntur districts, even the Sivaramakrishnan Committee also warned of the natural disasters hitting the area.
Experts feel careful study of technicalities is a must before any big constructions may take place in the capital city area.
