An engineering student from Bommuru on the outskirts of Rajahmundry died on Thursday evening by slipping into a waterfall near Mysuru and the body was traced on Friday morning.

Kamini Prasad Chowdary, a close family friend of deceased Bammerasetti Ajay Kumar (19) said that, the boy was studying engineering second year in Veltec Engineering College, Avadi, in Chennai.

He went to Mysuru along with his friends on an industrial tour and on Thursday afternoon a small group left for Balmuri waterfalls, a famous picnic spot near Mysuru. It is situated about 18 k.m. from Mysuru, on the way to the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam. Ajay Kumar and others took bath for some time and the security guards nearby alerted the youth not to enter the waterfall a second time for bathing after sunset.

When Ajay Kumar was about to take bath again, he slipped from the edge of a rock and fell down into the pond created by the waterfall.

“We got information at around 7.30 p.m. about missing of my son and along with some friends and immediately left for Mysore. Today (Friday) morning only the body was traced and the local police handed it over to us,” said B. Ramesh Kumar, TDP Bommuru unit president over phone from Mysore. His elder son is studying in Andhra University.
