In tune with its plans to organise the Godavari Pushkaralu on the lines of ‘Kumbh Mela’ in the north, the Government of Telangana has decided to invite seers of major spiritual centres from across the country and also the President and Prime Minister to the 12-day event, commencing on July 14.
At a review meeting here on Friday, Minister for Housing and Endowments A. Indrakaran Reddy directed the authorities to complete all works related to the event by June 15. He will personally inspect the works in Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts from May 15.
As the time for the ‘pushkaralu’ is approaching fast, the government is speeding up the works being implemented by the Panchayat Raj, Roads & Buildings and Irrigation Departments. The officials explained to the Minister the progress made in the execution of works such as the construction of bathing ghats, laying of roads and others.
On the directions of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the task of inviting the seers was handed over the Advisor to Government (Culture) K.V. Ramana Chary. It was decided at the meeting that the State government would move the Centre again seeking sanction of more funds for organising the event. “The Centre has to release more funds to Telangana for organising ‘pushkaralu’ since the course of river Godavari is the longest in the State,” the Minister said.
Endowments Commissioner N. Sivashankar, special officers of ‘pushkaralu’, officials from police, fire and tribal welfare departments also participated.
