NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police crime branch arrested five people on charges of leaking confidential documents on policy matters of the petroleum ministry on Thursday.

Some of them have been accused of leaking confidential information to business houses to tweak government's policy decisions.

Two are ministry officials, and three are intermediaries among the arrested.

A journalist has been detained and is being interrogated for some classified documents found in his possession.

The accused were already under surveillance by the central government.

Petroleum minister Dharmedra Pradhan has said, according to reports, that it was a common practice for papers to be leaked earlier, and such things happened openly under the previous UPA government. But the new government has put some strict measures in this regard and the condition has improved.
