Demanding jobs, welfare and housing - over 150 hijras, transgenders and their supporters assembled at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park.
The programme was hosted by Transgender activist Chandramukhi who demanded the implementation of the Supreme Court ruling in the Nalsa case in Telangana without which they are facing daily violence. Another activist, Vyjayanti Vasanta Mogli said that it’s government’s responsibility to eradication the social exclusion of transgender people and support the community.
The transgender people were declared by the Supreme Court in April last year as a third gender ruling on the National Legal Services Authority Union of India where the fundamental rights were equally applicable to the transgender people. The Court also said that the transgender people were eligible for reservations in admissions to educational institutions and jobs.
