Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh State government is staring at financial crisis.
As per budget estimates, officials predicted a monthly tax revenue of Rs 3,200 crore but the receipts have not crossed Rs 2,800 crore in any month during the present financial year.
According to official data, tax collection is short of Rs 400 crore every month.
As a majority of the revenue goes for the salaries and pensions of employees, little is left for the implementation of welfare programmes.
As per estimates Rs 22,000 crore income should be generated in the first trimester of the present financial year but the actual income is Rs 19,700 crore indicating a deficit of 2,300 crore.
The Centre should provide Rs 500 crore during the first trimester but the amount was not released so far.
As the government is spending Rs 4,800 crore per month for the implementation of various welfare programmes, the officials are going for overdraft facility and selling bonds to meet the expenditure.
