One of India's most powerful and historic modes of transportation, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has been split into two separate entities as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from 14th May. The Vice-Chairman and MD of APSRTC, N Sambasiva Rao, has issued the GO Note thereby officially informing all the employees that the corporation will now serve as two separate entities.
The split of this iconic transport company was inevitable with the formation of Telangana state last year. Following the split, two executive directors for AP and Telangana have been allocated provisionally along with the allocation of employees. The A Block at the Chikkadpally Bus Bhavan has been allocated to AP, while Telangana gets the B Block.
Founded in 1958, APSRTC has come a long way and is now considered one of the most effective transport companies in India, on par with the Indian Railways. APSRTC has also been awarded the reputed Guinness Record for boasting a large bus fleet in the world with more than 22,000 buses in the year 1999. With this split, even the number of buses will be divided and allocated to each state accordingly.
