Guntur: State Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Sivaprasada Rao on Thursday launched Action/2015, a State-level campaign, to popularise sustainable development goals (SDGs) in his native village, Kalvakuntla, in Guntur district. Action /2015 is implemented in the UN member-nations.
While launching the programme, Sivaprasada Rao said the sustainable development goals need to be achieved to end poverty and hunger, to ensure basic facilities to everyone to live with satisfaction and protection of the human rights. The SDGs will also enable improved sanitary conditions and contribute to better health for all.
Rao stated that his call for hundred per cent toilets was one of the strategies to achieve set goals. He said involvement of the Employment Guarantee Scheme workers to achieve SDGs would also ensure more work and money to them and contribute to their prosperity.
To be very symbolic, 15 children from different districts drawn from sections like tribals, dalits, orphans and child heading a family are being involved in spreading the SDG campaign.
The State-level programme is being organised by Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (WNTA), SEEDS, DBRC, LAMP, World Vision, PARA, SEESS, DBSU and representatives of the organisations. Their representatives D. Roshan Kumar, Anil Kumar, Solomon Paul, Krishna, James Watt, Karimoon and Sampathamma participated.
