YSR Congress flayed the Telugu Desam government alleging that it has allowed TD supporters including the corporators and their kin to involve in a series of irregularities in sand sale causing revenue loss to the state exchequer in Rajahmundry.

YSRC leaders alleged that TD corporators and their kin were involving in lifting truckloads of sand from sand ramps located near Kumari Talkies and near Jeeva Karunya Sangham on a single waybill in connivance with the staff at the ramps. They said that for purchase of two units of sand, the TD supporters were paying Rs 4,000 at a Mee-Seva Centre and getting a waybill in triplicate with a copy to the buyer, another to the government and the third one to the driver of the lorry transporting the sand to the buyer.

They alleged that with one waybill obtained to lift two units of sand, the TD supporters were lifting four to five truck loads of sand causing revenue loss to the government. They said that some societies, running on adhoc basis with no election to its office bearers and no audit for its accounts were involved in quarrying of sand and sale.

YSR Congress MLC Adireddy Appa Rao castigated the TD government for allegedly supporting such irregularities in sand mining and sale especially at the two sand ramps. He alleged that the TD supporters were procuring sand illegally and details mentioned on the waybill about the buyer were fake and selling away the sand thus procured in black market to make quick money.

MLC Rao said, “We will keep a close vigil on sand ramps involving in such irregularities. We demand punching of the waybill once the truck is loaded with sand at the sand ramp and permitted to go off to supply to the buyer. The name, address and telephone number of the buyer should be verified and the number of waybills issued with SOD Code should tally with number of vehicles permitted to transport sand from the sand ramp before its closure for the day.”

Rajahmundry Rural MLA (TD) Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary dismissed the allegations by the YSRC saying that the party was indulging in cheap publicity stunt. He said, “We are streamlining the entire exercise of sand quarrying and sale to help government earn good revenue. If there are some issues, we will sort them out.”

Rajahmundry sub -collector V. Vijayarama Raju said, "We have got an issue of over-weighment of sand in trucks. We will address any lapses. We have realized penalty worth Rs four lakhs from 20 vehicles for lapses in the last few days."
