Chennai: The National Green Tribunal southern bench on Friday constituted a two-member expert committee to look into the work undertaken by the Telangana government in and around the Hussainsagar. It directed the committee to submit the report by July 10.
The first bench, comprising judicial member M. Chockalingam and expert member P.S. Rao, was hearing an application filed by Save Our Urban Lakes, a voluntary organisation represented by Lubna Saraswath.
The tribunal appointed Dr S. Mohan, director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, a technocrat in civil engineering and water resources systems, and Devraj Ashok, a legal luminary from Karnataka.
Environmentalists and SOUL members fear that by the time the committee submits its report on July 10, the lake could be emptied.
