New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Srinagar on July 17 and host an Iftaar party there. Sources said his office is in the process of finalising the plan. It will also have to be approved by the Prime Minister, who is currently on an eight-day tour to Central Asia and Russia.
July 17 is the last Friday before Eid-ul-Fitr, which is expected to be celebrated the next day, depending on the sighting of the moon.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Jammu on the morning of July 17 to attend a function to mark the 100th birth anniversary of former lawmaker and minister Girdhari Lal Dogra. Later in the day, he could go to Srinagar, sources said.
Since he took office in May last year, PM Modi has visited Kashmir several times.
The last time he was in Srinagar was on the day of Diwali. The Prime Minister had chosen to spend the day in the city, which was yet to find its feet after the devastating floods.
