The Andhra Pradesh government will hire private agencies to implement the Swachh Bharat Mission in all urban areas.
The Swachh Andhra Corporation (SAC), a new company set up by the government has been empowered to hire suitable agencies either public or private, to implement the mission.
The SAC will prepare a comprehensive sanitation plan for towns and cities, state sanitation concept, state sanitation strategy on its own or through technical assistance from private consultants.
The Municipal Administration principal secretary Giridhar Aramane said it has been decided to allow private sector participation for developing new technologies, additional resource mobilisation, corporate social responsibility for effective implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Swachh Andhra Corporation will work towards innovating new strategies and introduce new technologies in the field of solid waste management including technologies relating to waste to energy conversion.
Towards making the SAC start its operations soon, the state government has nominated initial chairman, directors and shareholders to the SAC with an authorised capital of Rs50 lakh and paid-up capital of Rs25 lakh with shares of Rs10 each.
The seed capital of Rs150 crore announced earlier will be accounted into the new company (i.e. SAC).
While the Municipal Administration principal secretary has been nominated as initial chairman of the SAC, the commissioner and director of Municipal Administration and the managing directors of APUFIDC and SAC respectively are the directors.
The government has kept the option open of nominating more officers as and when it deems fit.
