Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy visited the site allocated for the Dugarajapatnam port in Nellore district here on Monday when he demanded that the State and the Central governments take immediate steps for making this port a reality without making further delay.

Accompanied by former Tirupati MP and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy interacted with the women and youth in Dugarajapatnam site area.

Stating that this port would mean a life-changing project for the local people, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said Mr. Chinta Mohan worked very hard for getting the approvals for this project at the State and the Central level when he was MP. If implemented properly, the Dugarajapatnam port will have the potential to attract industries and create as many as 50,000 jobs and more in this area.

The Congress leaders also addressed a public meeting held at Nayudupeta town which was held to protest against what they described as anti-people policies of the TDP and the BJP governments.

Deploring that the poor people were being deceived after elections, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy warned the TDP and the BJP against going back on their election promises as this would attract a severe backlash from all sections of the people. Mr. Chinta Mohan said the Dugarajapatnam port was the rightful claim of the people of Nellore district and that nobody could stop this project as the people would wage an agitation for the same at any cost. INTUC State president D. Madhusudhana Rao and others were present.
