The mouth watering delicacies of Telangana that were showcased at the plenary of the Telangana Rasthra Samiti made every one ( delegates mostly), police and the media forget the inconveniences and also inadequacies of the public event.
The first plenary of the TRS party that was born 14 years ago, held first post formation of Government in the newly formed state of Telangana will be talked about for more reasons than one.
In spite of the routine inconveniences of traffic jams and restrictions and harassment by overzealous policemen on duty, the food, flavour and hospitality of the event left fond memories. Like the TDP, the TRS also focused on keeping party delegates happy with delicious lunch arrangements at Nizam college kitchen.
Almost 50 cooks, 100 assistants worked 48 hours ahead of the event. "Almost 50 birds were culled, 50 sheep and 50 buffaloes per day for the TRS order," said a meat supplier of Old city. Nearly 5 tones of vegetables and 10,000 litres of milk were used for both cooking and also serving tea, butter milk and also curd needs every day, it is said.
The catering, dining arrangements were made at the Nizam College grounds across the road from the Lal Bahadur stadium and as soon as the inaugural session was over, the crowd made a beeline for the stadium because they were hungry. Lunch arrangements were made, reportedly for about 50,000 people. Actually, the preparation of the food started late last evening itself, considering the spread and the volume of people expected to attend the plenary.
The menu was fairly exhaustive with seven non-vegetarian dishes including ‘chicken shorba’, green chicken fry, ‘natukodi shorba’, ‘egg pulusu’, mutton curry, liver fry and ‘boti fry’. For vegetarians, it was only four – ‘pachchi pulusu’, ‘Gangavalli mango dal’, ‘bagara baingan’ and aloo tomato kurma. There was ‘bagara rice’, plain rice and ‘raitha’ to go with the dishes.
But more interesting and complex than the preparation of dishes were the catering arrangements that were necessitated considering the size of the gathering. A massive dining space was created in the main ground of the college for the ‘aam junta’ and progressively, there were separate sections for women, party leaders, MLAs and MPs.
The hassle free catering for all- aam junta, MLAs, MPs and the VVIPs by over hundred people had a mind boggling effect. "For the first time in a political event we felt like in a royal wedding enjoying Shahi lunch," said a veteran TRS leader Vidyasagar Rao , Food was not lavish but sumptuous, appetising and tasty, was the comment of another officer bearer at the TRS Bhavan.
