Hyderabad: Around 824 acres of land from about 850 small farmers was acquired by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and used for setting up the Metro Rail depot and casting yards, at Uppal Metro junction.

To understand the land requirement and acquisition process, a ministerial team from Uganda led by Uganda’s minister for housing, lands & urban development Engola Sam, met the managing director of HMR, Mr N.V.S. Reddy on Wednesday in the city.

The team visited the Nagole Metro station, the Uppal pre-cast yard and other Metro work sites.

“The Hyderabad Metro Rail project is being executed not as just an mass transportation system but as an urban redesign project. This was kept in mind in the land acquisition, bid process, technical specifications, financial model, communication strategies and engineering solutions adopted to resolve complex issues connected with the project. Above all, security measures are being implemented for the safety of women and children and the convenience of senior citizens and the differently-abled,” said Mr N.V.S. Reddy.
