Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday paid rich tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and said that the late leader was a role model for younger generation.
The Chief Minister participated in the 140 birth anniversary celebrations of the country’s first Home Minister. He also administered Ektha Oath for the participants as part of the celebrations.
Chandrababu Naidu said that Sardar Patel was an iron man and had left his impact on every task that he undertook during those days. Describing Patel as a human rights activist, the Chief Minister said that the late leader had left his mark on the nation. He further recalled Patel’s contribution in keeping India united after Independence. He said Patel’s speeches were graded as among the world’s top 100 speeches.
He asked the youth to read about Patel and also his speeches and contribute for the nation. He wanted them to draw inspiration from the patriotic ideals of the late leader. The Chief Minister said that the Andhra Pradesh government would give due recognition to the late leader.
He said that the government would install a life size statue of Sardar Patel at the new capital, Amaravati. The statue would keep inspiring the younger generation on patriotism and strong will power that the late leader had displayed.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat Raj and Drinking Water Chaudhary Birender Singh wanted that the qualities of Sardar to be followed by every politician so that they work for the greater good of a larger community. He wished that the statue of Iron Man at Gujarat would also be considered as one of the wonders of the world within a short period.
Bharatiya Janata Party State president K Haribabu, MP Gokaraju Gangaraju and others spoke on the occasion. Local MP Kesineni Srinivas presided over the meeting. Cultural programmes by the students of Government Music and Dance College enthralled the gathering.
Ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Ch Ayyanna Pathrudu, Kamineni Srinivas, Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Anuradha, MLC Buddha Venkanna and other leaders of the TDP and BJP were present.
