HYDERABAD: A delegation of Telangana Students Joint Action Committee met AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi and formally invited him to attend the meeting to be held on Osmania University campus during his visit to the state.
A 45-member delegation including student leaders accompanied by TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. It is learnt that Rahul Gandhi had discussions with the delegation for more than one hour during which the TPCC leaders apprised the former about the importance of Osmania University in the Telangana statehood agitation.
Meanwhile, the student union leaders told Rahul Gandhi about the need to launch another agitation for fulfilling the aspirations of the students and other sections of the people in the new state.‘’Not only the problems related to youth and unemployed, we have apprised Rahul Gandhi about the problems compounding the state and also the failures of the TRS government since the past 14 months,’’ OUJAC chairman Punna Kailash said.
The students told Rahul Gandhi about the failure of the TRS government in fulfilling its pre-poll promise of one lakh government jobs and how the government is neglecting education sector by not even appointing vice-chancellors to universities.
Meanwhile, some leaders made their intent clear on politics too during the meeting, sources said.
‘’You should give tickets to young blood also. Instead of giving party tickets to those who lost elections, it is better that young blood is encouraged,’’ some of them reportedly told Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi agreed to attend the meeting during his visit to the state, which might be during the last week of August, the students claimed.
