I don't want to take any chances this time

After debuting with an acclaimed film like Gundello Godari, many thought director Kumar Nagendra would team up with stars for his second directorial. Defying expectations, Kumar did Joru with Sundeep Kishan. Though the film wasn't a commercial success like Gundello Godari, it still managed to get mixed to good reviews. Ahead of release of his third film Tuntari, director Kumar talks to Gulte and goes down the memory lane.

On Choosing Remake

My cinematographer is from Chennai. Yet he knows what works for Telugu audiences. One day, he suggested me to watch Maan Karate. Upon his suggestion, I watched the film and liked it very much. I met Rohit and briefed him on the film's plot. He watched and said he was also looking for a story like this which has various shades. That's how Rohit came on board and he lived up to the role. Since it's a film with universal acceptance, we didn't do any significant changes.

Meeting Murugadoss

Murugadoss (sir) has provided story for the film. Given that a maverick makers he is, his story has that variations. It's a film with universal concept. It's a blend of fantasy, thrill, action, comedy, romance.

I just met him once. He told me to increase the dose of romance between lead pair and said it will work in favour of movie. I did it and it really helped the film as audience would connect to the film's second half depending on the romantic track between hero (Nara Rohit) and heroine (Latha Hegde) in the first half.

Boxing:

For first-time, Rohit is seen fighting in boxing ring. There's a surprise element connected with it. He's not a professional boxer in film. But what made him land in the boxing ring is vital for the film. Even in the trailer we made it clear that film is based on destiny vs hard work.

Boxing is just a small portion of the film. The film has several other variations. But boxing element has been blown out of the proportion.

Comedy:

I don't want to take any chances this time around and make sure that there is abundant fun element in Tuntari. Vennela Kishore has a throughout role in the film. Comedians Ali, Shakalaka Shankar have good roles who tickle audiences funny bones.

Nara Rohit's characterization is highlight of Tuntari. As the title says, his role has that naughty tinge. He pulled it off with ease and he is at his best.

Upcoming Projects:

Couple of scripts are ready. But waiting for the result of Tuntari. I'd love to work with stars as it'd make my job a bit easy - be it in terms of expanding budget or pulling crowds.
