YouTube channel Old Delhi Films has released a video that encourages women to speak up about being sexually harassed.
The team interviewed several young college-going women from across Delhi University and got them to open up about their first, and then multiple experiences of sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment continues to harangue women, not just in Delhi, but across the country as well. One of the college-goers even admits that, as women, they face this almost every day.
In 2012, a Times of India survey revealed that almost 70 per cent of the women who responded said they had been subjected to lewd comments or songs, and approximately a quarter had been groped or molested by men.
In over 90 per cent of the occurrences, people around did not respond to help these women, according to the survey. What's even more alarming is only 5 per cent of the women surveyed admitted to not registering a complaint due to lack of impact.
This is precisely what these young women along with the channel are attempting to combat: "Everybody is at fault. The men cannot be blamed entirely for this," says one of the young women in the video. "Start speaking up... don't let that person take you for granted," says another.
It's time to take a stand.
