Five persons of two families including two girls were killed, almost instantly, when the Indica car they were travelling in, on their way to Yadgiri in adjoining Karnataka rammed head-on into a cement-laden lorry proceeding to the State capital in broad daylight on Monday.
When contacted, Kodangal Circle Inspector A. Vishwa Prasad said that the grey-coloured car bearing registration number KA 36 M 4512 had five occupants including the driver. Police have registered a complaint and are investigating into the circumstances that led to the accident that left the driver safe, but in which another woman and her young son were badly injured.
Identified as Kanyakumari and her son they were rushed to the nearest hospital with grievous injuries. The names of the deceased are Y. Linga (32), his wife Narsamma (28), their two-year-old daughter Rashmi, Satish Kumar (35), a friend and his six-year-old daughter Vaishali.
