Hyderabad: Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Ashok Gajapati Raju and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada.
It may be recalled that in May this year, civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju directed the officials to complete works pertaining to development of a new terminal and lounges at the earliest.
The idea was to upgrade the airport on international standards, after the state government had announced that Vijayawada-Guntur region would be the new capital region of the state.
Sources said, Airport Authority India (AAI) officials had prepared a plan to expand the runway at the airport from the existing 7,500 feet to 10,500 feet. this will facilitate easy landing of international flights.
