Hyderabad: A huge 4.85 km-long national flag was on display here on Friday as people carried the tricolour to mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Students among others on Friday carried the giant flag on the Necklace Road around the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake during the event jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Telangana's Ministry of Industry and others.
The event was aimed at promoting Khadi in the society, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Vice Chairman Perala Shekhar Rao told PTI.
The event was witnessed by Asia Book of Records, Bharat Book of Records and Viswa Guru book of records, he said.
The flag, made by weavers of Sircilla in Karimnagar district of Telangana, was declared to be the largest in Asia by the Asia Book of Records, he claimed.
Recalling that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for promoting Khadi, he said rural economy, weavers and others would get a boost with the promotion of Khadi.
Union Minister of State for Labour (independent charge) Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana minister J Krishnarao, BJP floor leader in state assembly K Laxman, party MLC N Ramachandra Rao were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh ESL Narasimhan, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Bandaru Dattatreya and others paid floral tributes of Mahatma Gandhi at the 'Bapu Ghat' here.
