MIM kept out of power, Rammohan elected mayor, Fasihuddin deputy mayor

As expected Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has kept MIM, its purported friendly party out of power in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. After a long time again MIM finds itself out of power after two terms when it shared power with Congress. Despite Chief minister KCR’s announcement that it would bank upon MIM if TRS fell short of numbers, KCR did not offer the post of deputy mayor to MIM. Instead he chose to appoint a loyal Muslim corporator Baba Fasihuddin as deputy mayor.

In the today’s election conducted for the post of mayor and deputy mayor, TRS nominees were declared elected unopposed. While Bonthu Rammohan had been elected Mayor , Baba Fasihuddin as deputy mayor. Rammohan’s name had been proposed by corporator Manne Kavita, while Mirpet corporator Anjaiah seconded. Baba Fasiyuddin’s name was proposed by Seshukumar, corporator from Amirpet and seconded by Ramanagar corporator Srinvas Redddy. MIM supported them.

Rammohan was an active student leader from Osmania University during Telangana movement. As he had never strayed away from the path of T-movement, TRS took him into its fold and appointed him as president of its youth wing. His proximity to KCR helped him get assembly ticket in 2014 election. But he lost. The post of mayor is said to be reward for his commitment T-movement. Rammohan belongs to Munnuru Kapu community.
