Railway officials said nine coaches of the Bangalore-Ernakulam Inter-City express derailed between Anekal-Hosur. The mishap occurred around 7.40 am.
Railway authorities have rushed rescue teams to the spot and mounted a massive operation. Ambulances from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been rushed to the spot and the injured were being rushed to nearby hospitals.
Several passengers have been trapped in the coaches mangled due to the impact of derailment and being pulled out, sources said.
