New Delhi: The much awaited AC double-decker train between New Delhi and Lucknow will be launched shortly as the clearance for its operation has been obtained.
"We have got the clearance from Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) for the double-decker train for Lucknow," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said in New Delhi on Thursday.
While the date of launching the train has not been decided yet, it is likely to be flagged off before Holi festival.
Mr Prabhu was speaking on the sidelines of an RPF function. When asked about the Rail Budget, he said, "We will try to fulfill everybody's aspirations in the budget."
According to Railways, the AC double-decker New Delhi-Lucknow will have 12 coaches having 110 seats in each. It will run approximately at a maximum speed of 110 kph and the fare is likely to be around Rs. 630 for travelling between Lucknow and New Delhi.
There has been a demand for an AC double-decker train between the national capital and Lucknow.
Railways is currently running AC double-deckers on a few routes including Howrah-Dhanbad, Mumbai-Ahemedabad, Delhi-Jaipur and Bangalore-Chennai among others.
