AP Wine Dealers Association and Politicians with business interests have been opposing the decision of State Government to take over the liquor trade eyeing huge profits. While the Wine Dealers Association has sent a letter to Government asking it not to change the existing liquor policy, TDP Leaders express the opinion people willn't appreciate Government selling liquor in the retail shops and its like digging one's grave. Few of party leaders from Coastal Districts & Rayalseems have been planning to meet CM to convey their disapproval.
On the other hand, Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra makes it clear State Government has decided to take over the liquor trade and there is no chance of going back what-so-ever as it helps curb the irregularities in the trade by the syndicates. He said the new liquor policy will be finalised by April and will be implemented from July 1st.
AP earns Rs 7,000 crore Excise Duty from 4,800 liquor outlets. By taking over the business, It is eyeing nothing short of Rs 12,000 crore and this is part of measures taken to bridge the huge revenue deficit.
